Importing documents
Most teams already have their forms somewhere else. Rather than retyping one, bring it in: the file becomes a template, and the blanks in it become fields people can fill in.
1 · What you can bring in
- Files: Word (.docx), PDF, plain text (.txt) and Markdown (.md). Word and PDF are capped at 25 MB each, text and Markdown at 2 MB.
- Links: a Google Forms or Google Docs link, open to anyone with the link. If a document is private or a form has stopped accepting responses, Pocper tells you which of the two it hit.
- Scans will not work: a scanned PDF is a photograph of a page with no text in it. Pocper checks first — a wholly scanned file imports nothing, and where only some pages are scanned the readable pages come through with a note in place of each scan. A password-protected PDF is refused until the password is removed.
2 · Importing a document
Drag the file onto the template section, or use Import documents in the toolbar and pick it. Pocper reads the file and opens the result in the editor straight away.
It looks for the writing, not the decoration. A row of underscores in a printed form is the field, so "Name: ________" arrives as a label followed by a real input box. Checkbox characters become checkboxes. Headings, lists, tables, bold and italic all survive, and embedded images come across with the text.
Read it through once before you send it anywhere. An import is a good first draft, not a finished template: a heavily laid-out document — multi-column pages, text boxes, unusual spacing — arrives as text and usually wants a few minutes of tidying.
Several files at once, or a whole folder dragged in, work the same way; the difference is that you stay on the list instead of being taken into the editor.
3 · Where the document lands
Drop onto a template folder card and it goes into that folder. Drop onto empty space — or use the toolbar — and Pocper makes a folder for it. Drag a folder in and the new template folder takes that folder's name.
A template folder is flat, so if the folder you dragged in had subfolders, everything inside arrives together at one level.
